All sessions are in-person support within a Geodesic dome and outdoor garden office. Telehealth will be only offered for extreme weather conditions like dangers of wildfire smoke or ice or by request related to disability.
In these ongoing sessions, we will reflect on the past, discover how it's effecting the present, practice healthier thinking patterns, and learn effective coping strategies. Treatment plan is co-created, and we regularly reflect on progress and update goals. Goals may include recovery from invalidation, improved relationships, improved communication, improved emotion regulation, skills to tolerate stress and the things we cannot change, changing patterns of behavior that are no longer serving you, and finding balance in obligations of family, work, school, and fun.
My goal in therapy is for my clients to increase understanding of self and trust self to make their own assessments and choices for their well being. When applying Dialectical Behavior Therapy resources to neurodivergent clients, I use it as a guide for skills in understanding their own neurodivergence and as a transition tool for understanding neurotypical behaviors.
My therapeutic style resembles a peer support model, having purposeful interactions with less hierarchy, and more human to human experience reflections. My setting and perspectives lean less on the medical model principals and encourages out of the box thinking and creative healing prompted by personal and natural world wisdom.
“My autistic teen and I were a little skittish about another mismatched therapeutic situation, but Kim really understood our needs and helped us feel comfortable and seen. We especially benefited from her upfront information about what to expect at each session, her clear prompt communication, and her friendly lovely natural therapy space. Working with an actually autistic therapist made all the difference. “ -Client and Parent 2023
“I couldn’t be more grateful to have found a sense of light and ownership in myself that I haven’t met in a long time.” - Client 2020
This is a reflection from one of Kim’s clients regarding what they valued in the therapeutic setting she has created:
“Soft blankets to keep me warm and offer comfort. The cozy wood burning stove that radiates heat and has a pleasant smell. The thoughtful patterns of objects that can be moved if desired. The freedom to sit move around and fidget as much as needed without judgement or ridicule. Medium to create if you want to. Soft voice and gentle leading of Kim herself. The goats are my favorite! I love to watch their antics and weather permitting, feeding them while we talk. No shoes rule inside the dome as that reminds me of how I would like to live again and the freedom of unbound feet to better ground myself.” - Client 2024 (anonymous survey with permission to share content on website for other potential clients to learn from their experience)
